How to use AI to create a YouTube Video Summary

Sometimes I struggle with video as a format for learning at times, and prefer the written word. So I’ve identified a quick workflow, using AI, that helps me turn a YouTube video into a distilled summary (including links).

Here’s a walkthrough video of the process I use (the irony of using video to demonstrate this isn’t lost on me… 🤣 ).

I used Tactiq to create the transcript.

The ChatGPT prompt:

I’d like a concise yet comprehensive understanding of this video’s content without having to watch it in full. By summarising the transcript, I can quickly identify the speaker’s main arguments, references, and any products mentioned, which helps me decide if I need to explore the video further.

Please provide a thorough and succinct overview of the transcript’s main themes and ideas, ensuring that you capture the speaker’s key messages. Include any links or resources mentioned in the video and explain their significance.

Examine the speaker’s arguments, including any evidence or examples used to support them, and note any counterarguments or differing viewpoints that appear.

Assess the speaker’s assumptions and reasoning, offering observations on how their points might be improved or extended. Identify areas that seem contradictory, incomplete, or in need of further context.

Conclude with a clear set of key takeaways—highlighting the most important conclusions or insights from the transcript. If the video references any products, brands, or services, briefly state their relevance and provide direct links where possible.

Write everything clearly in British English, using well-organised paragraphs for clarity and thoroughness.
